Bank Rakyat Members Should Use Facilities To The Fullest
KUALA LUMPUR, April 5 (Bernama) -- Bank Rakyat members should become active customers of the bank by utilising its various banking facilities and not only remain members to reap dividends.
Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Minister Datuk Seri Hassan Malek said active participation by members was necessary to ensure the Islamic cooperative bank would continue to generate profits in years to come.
"I praise the efforts of many cooperatives which have made Bank Rakyat their business partner like the National Education Cooperative (KOPENAS).
"KOPENAS collaborated with Bank Rakyat in January to launch the Debit-i Bank Rakyat-Kopenas card which would facilitate the payment of dividends to members.
"This is a synergistic alliance which can help the cooperative sector make a mark in the country," he said at the bank's annual general meeting here Saturday.
Meanwhile, Hassan said the number of cooperatives which have adopted the Ar-Rahnu Xchange franchise, which offered Islamic pawn broking to customers, was growing.
"Through such an initiative like the Ar-Rahnu Xchange, Bank Rakyat has shared knowledge and expertise with cooperatives which have taken up the franchise," he said.
Hassan also advised Bank Rakyat to make indepth studies on a particular product, taking into account professional advice and calculated risks, before venturing into a particular business to minimise risks.
